Assistant Director, Data Services/Business Analyst

The West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) is dedicated to furthering the ideals and promoting the welfare of the United States Military Academy (USMA), and to supporting and serving its graduates. USMA is renowned as one of the world's preeminent leader development institutions.  The student body, or Corps of Cadets, numbers 4,400 and each year approximately 1,000 cadets graduate and are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.

WPAOG is seeking an Assistant Director of Data Services/Business Analyst. This position reports directly to the Director of Advancement Services and supervises three other Data Services staff members.

As a member of the Advancement Services team, this position will have main responsibility for WPAOG’s constituent database as well as oversee specific data projects benefiting the entire organization.  The Assistant Director of Data Services/Business Analyst will coordinate and collaborate across all WPAOG departments to ensure WPAOG has the data necessary to carry out its mission, is able to use and manipulate that data, and has updated policies and procedures governing the collection, storage, maintenance, and use of the data.  This position will consult with end users to analyze ongoing needs and develop reliable solutions to support fundraising and alumni engagement efforts.

The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing proposed changes in data processes, coding, etc. as well as imports of new information to determine potential impacts to all departments and units within WPAOG. The Assistant Director of Data Services/Business Analyst will provide recommendations to the Director of Advancement Services to ensure the database runs smoothly and all users are able to access necessary data as well as utilize the information to carry out their tasks and initiatives.  The Assistant Director of Advancement Services will review, edit, write and enforce policies and procedures governing the collection, storage, maintenance, and use of data, including the determination of security rights.  Also, this position will work with IT on PCI compliance and other security issues related to the collection and storage of sensitive information.

In addition, the incumbent will serve as the POC for all data release requests.  He/She will respond to requests for data from grads and others, annually review the data release and privacy policies, and make sure they are understood by WPAOG staff and posted online.  The Assistant Director of Data Services/Business Analyst will remain abreast of Blackbaud software upgrades and enhancements and inform WPAOG staff of expected benefits and impacts.  Also, he/she will serve as the authoritative expert on constituent management software to include the integration of third party software and mobile apps. This position will also provide recommendations to WPAOG staff for software purchases and upgrades.

Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills are required. The ability to think creatively, take initiative, and manage teams is a must.  The successful applicant will have expert-level knowledge in database applications and management (Blackbaud CRM or Raiser’s Edge experience preferred) and advanced proficiency in reporting (Microsoft Report Builder preferred).  The incumbent must be proficient in building complex queries for fundraising purposes; have knowledge of a wide variety of software including expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access; and must possess the ability to train users, read and interpret policies and procedures, and explain applications and policies to non-technical staff.
