Democracy Fellows for Voter Engagement Campaign
 
Faith in Texas is seeking candidates to serve as temporary (1-3 months) canvassers in a voter mobilization effort related to getting out the vote efforts in Dallas-Fort Worth area. Canvassers will be responsible for contacting thousands of voters in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to remind them to vote in the November 2018 general elections.  Canvassers will be knocking on doors and having meaningful conversations to remind them about each election and informing those voters around the important impact of the District Attorney and DISD trustees. Canvassers will be required to fill daily reports with a team supervisor documenting their attempts, contacts and commitments received. Canvassers will be focusing their efforts primarily in low-income communities, working class communities, and communities of color.
 
Hours and Length of Employment:
 
  • Hours: Monday - Friday 4:30pm to 9pm and Saturday’s from 10am to 5pm. Other times may be required (16 hours a week required, final schedule to be finalized)
  • Location: Dallas, TX
  • Start Date: Rolling
  • End Date: November 16, 2018
 
Canvasser Qualifications:
 
  • Dedication to improve lives of community residents by engaging voters and increasing participation of public in public life
  • Ability to motivate voters around our vision for economic and racial justice in Texas
  • Ability to work 4 hours per day, six to seven days per week, in evening and weekends
  • Ability to walk or move at a brisk pace (at least 3 miles/hour) for four hours.
  • Ability to climb stairs to access doors in apartment buildings and residential neighborhoods
  • Ability to work in extreme weather safely (hot, cold, wet, etc.)
  • Ability to work well in a team-setting
  • Previous canvassing experience preferred but not necessary
  • Must be courteous, well-spoken and punctual
  • Passion to make direct voter contact, including asking voters to pledge to vote in person
  • Has transportation to different work sites within Dallas and surrounding areas.
  • Ability to speak and understand both Spanish and English is preferred, but candidates will be considered who do not meet this requirement
