High Voltage Maintenance is seeking experienced NETA Certified Test Technicians in Connecticut.

Job Summary:

Perform support for field operations.  Perform maintenance, testing, calibration and commissioning of electrical apparatus. Perform as “lead” person on some projects. Perform other assignments as required.   Some supervision required.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Responsible for maintaining personal support equipment, PPE, hand tools and test equipment.

•Responsible for personal safety and following procedures outlined in HVM Safety Manual.

•Requires troubleshooting capabilities, use of load and power quality recording instrumentation, infrared scanners, voltmeters and ammeters.

•Simple relay calibration and commissioning. 

•Perform point to point verification of control wiring.

•Equipment switching, grounding, and L/O Tag out.

•Perform maintenance, tests and inspections on the following equipment:  low, medium and high voltage circuit breakers and switchboards, ground systems, motor control centers, low and medium voltage cables, low and medium voltage switches, ground fault systems, two-winding transformers, power transformers, instrument transformers, automatic transfer switches, capacitors, batteries, re-closers, watt-hour meter calibration and all equipment associated with low and medium voltage substation and switchgear systems.

•Working knowledge of NETA ATS and MTS testing specifications

•Accurately record field data for all tests and inspections utilizing electronic test sheet programs such as Power DB and Form Flow.

•Assist with start-up services on switchgear and electrical systems up through 500 kV class.

•Provide technical support and assistance for sales engineers and technical report writers. 

•Conduct safety meetings as required by HVM’s Safety Policy. 

•Ensure compliance with Emerson environmental and safety policies.

•Sales Support:  Maintain strong client relationships, perform all functions pertaining to a written job proposal to a client, including estimate of man hours and expenses, and development of scope and pricing.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Graduate of applicable Electrical Technical School such as the IBEW Joint Apprenticeship Program or Military equivalent and two years minimum same or similar work experience.    OR    High school education or equivalent and three years minimum same or similar work experience.

•Communicate effectively, writing and verbally, with clients and peers.

•Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code and various industry standards, such as OSHA and NFPA.

•Basic computer skills including editing, formatting and using templates in Microsoft Word, use of Internet for standards/products/manufacturer research.

•Willing to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays and night work.  Must be available for out-of-town and international travel of up to several weeks.

•Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell.  Frequently required to sit, climb and balance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, basic color differentiation and the ability to adjust focus.  Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move 100-pound test sets.

•Valid Driver’s License.
