OVERVIEW OF THE LEADERSHIP POSITION:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As a key leader in a dynamic and changing organization, the CFO must be an innovative, hands-on leader who will assess, develop, implement and continually improve strong systems and procedures for the organization.   She/he will collaborate with other C-officers and Vice-Presidents in designing and implementing the organization’s strategic plan and ensuring a successful, pragmatic, financially funded and impact focused organization.  

The CFO is a key member of the executive leadership and senior management teams, who will lead the finance function with an emphasis on forecasting, planning, budgeting and financial reporting.  This position will also be the key liaison to outside legal counsel

She/he will be a thought partner with the COO and work closely with other members of the leadership team to craft overall strategy and goals while ensuring that financial objectives, systems and data are in place to fully inform any investment decisions in both new and legacy products and programs.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE CFO:

Key Responsibilities:

Executive Leadership

  • Serve on the Executive Team, participate in Board meetings, and contribute to successful development and implementation of the strategic plan and financial objectives.

·    Manage, empower and develop the finance and accounting teams.

 

·    Work closely with Senior Leadership to identify and address cross-functional organizational priorities and build appropriate organization-wide financial processes and systems. 

 

·    Provide leadership and guidance on Fair Trade’s efforts to develop multi-year financial plans aligned with strategic goals.

 

Finance and Risk Management

·    Lead and ensure up-to date and accurate financial analysis on strategic issues including pricing, major service contracts, new business opportunities, and growth capital.

 

·    Oversee financial reporting to the COO, CEO and Board finance and audit committees.

 

·    Lead annual budgeting, quarterly projections, and long-term financial strategy and planning activities.

 

·    Advise senior managers on matters of strategic financial goal setting and performance metrics and measurement for return-on-investments and scaling of Fair Trade’s impact.

 

·    Regularly assess organizational performance against budgets and strategy and monitor budgets vs actual expenditures.

 

·    Oversee the development of corporate policies and procedures to establish an internal control environment and risk management structure appropriate for the organization’s size, maturity, and growth plans.

 

·    Act as accountable C-level officer for annual external audit.

 

·    Steward banking, lending, and insurance relationships.

 

Legal and Administration

·    Work as the primary liaison with external legal counsel on issues ranging from global trademarks to contract management.

 

Key Cross-functional Relationships/Roles

·    Advise and counsel senior leaders and their teams on matters of financial goal setting, operational effectiveness and performance and financial metrics and measurements. 

 

·    Collaborate with the COO and Head of People on organizational policies and procedures, assessment of compensation programs and benefits, and areas of risk management for employee health and safety.

 

·     Work in partnership with IT leadership to ensure that oversight of specific projects are in line with both strategic and financial goals.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS

 

Experience:

·    Demonstrated track record in implementing systems and processes that enable growth and effectiveness.

 

·    Experience in scaling entrepreneurial and high-growth organizations.

 

·    Ten or more years of senior management experience across finance.  Strong background in budgeting, financial planning and analysis, financing strategies and GAAP requirements. 

 

·    Strong leader and communicator with track record of building relationships and instilling confidence in the board, management, funders and other stakeholders.

 

·    Excellent management, quantitative analysis and problem-solving skills.

 

·    Track record/acumen for ensuring financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing and operational use.

 

·    International experience with non-U.S. subsidiaries and foreign banks.

 

·    Experience with non-profit finance is preferable.

EDUCATION:
