About the Position:
The ESA Northern California Biological Resources and Land Management group is seeking a Senior Fisheries Biologist to manage fisheries work out of one of our Northern California offices (Oakland, Petaluma, Sacramento or San Francisco). The successful candidate will be responsible for managing fisheries projects in the Northern California area and working with the Fisheries Program Manager to develop fisheries resources work. The candidate should be well-versed in issues related to CEQA and NEPA, regulatory permitting (Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, California Fish and Game Code), quantitative analysis, and restoration ecology for a variety of projects. Experience with large-scale infrastructure projects in water resources, transportation and/or restoration programs preferred. Experience in evaluating habitat impacts and interactions, restoration ecology and design, mitigation strategies, and a working knowledge of California natural resource issues and the State Water Project are strongly desired. Established and trusted working relationships with resource and regulatory agency personnel are also considered important attributes of the successful candidate.
Candidates must possess the ability to manage diverse, multi-disciplinary teams. Ability to deliver projects developed collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams. At least 10 years of experience managing projects and proven ability to win high-profile projects. Experience working with agencies involved in providing, managing, and regulating fisheries resources (i.e., the National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Regional Water Quality Control Boards). Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Qualified candidates should have at least a BA/BS in a related discipline (MS preferred.
