About the Position:

The ESA Northern California Biological Resources and Land Management Group is seeking a Program Manager to direct biological resources work out of our San Francisco or Oakland (California) offices. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and leading major biological resources programs in the San Francisco Bay Area and other Northern California areas and working with other program managers and the leadership of the firm to set the direction of biological resources work in Northern California, as well as further develop our biological resources business and increase our market share. The candidate should be well-versed in issues related to CEQA and NEPA, regulatory permitting (the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, California Fish and Game Code), and restoration ecology for a variety of projects. Experience with large-scale infrastructure projects in water resources, transportation and/or restoration programs preferred. Experience in evaluating habitat impacts and interactions, restoration ecology and design, mitigation strategies, and a working knowledge of California natural resource issues are strongly desired. Established and trusted, working relationships with resource and regulatory agency personnel is also considered an important attribute of the successful candidate.


Candidates must possess the ability to manage diverse, multi-disciplinary teams. Ability to deliver projects developed collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams. At least 5 years of experience managing a business unit and proven ability to win high-profile projects. Experience working with agencies involved in providing, managing, and regulating biological resources (i.e., the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Wildlife). Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Qualified candidates should have at least a BA/BS in a related discipline (MS preferred), and a minimum of 10 years’ experience.
