About the Position:

ESA is seeking a mid- to senior-level Air Quality scientist/engineer for our Los Angeles, Pasadena, or Santa Monica offices.  The ideal candidate will have 6 to 10 years of experience conducting air quality impact assessment (AQIAs) and greenhouse gas (GHG) analyses.   Applicants should be experts with air quality and health risk assessment models such as CalEEMod, EMFAC, AERMOD, and HARP, and their application to permitting/compliance issues and/or CEQA and NEPA. 


  • Join a dynamic team of scientists and engineers in performing AQIAs, GHG analyses, and Health Risk Assessments (HRAs) for highly visible and/or controversial projects.
  • Lead or manage compliance tasks such as permitting, emissions inventories, audits, etc.
  • Serve as Project Manager (PM) or Deputy PM overseeing technical assignments for adherence to quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • Oversee monitoring tasks related to environmental compliance at semi-permanent (stationary) or temporary sites.


Position requires deep experience with air quality and greenhouse gas policies and regulations. Excellent written and analytical skills are required. Experience with project/task management responsibilities for moderate to large size projects and serving as a principal technical investigator for medium to high complexity projects is required. Candidates should have a minimum of a BA/BS and 6+ years of experience (or a Masters and 4+ years’ experience). Candidates with additional experience are highly desirable and would be considered for more senior employment levels.

  • Must have demonstrated experience performing/managing air pollutant emission calculations for wide array of complex project types (development, industrial, municipal, etc.).
  • Recent experience in Southern California a must.
  • Expertise in dispersion modeling and/or HRA highly desirable.
  • Professional Engineer EIT registration highly desirable
  • Access to personal vehicle.
