About the Position:

ESA is seeking a Director level Air Quality and/or Climate Science scientist/engineer to participate in building and leading ESA’s Air Quality practice within the Northern California region. The ideal candidate will have at least 12-15 years of experience with increasing responsibility related to selling and managing air quality and greenhouse gas (GHG) services; providing outstanding client services; supervising and training assigned staff; and contributing to a supportive, collegial, and fun work environment. The successful candidate shall be a recognized expert in the field of air quality impact assessments (AQIAs) for CEQA and NEPA projects, permitting/compliance under various California air quality management districts, and/or GHG Reduction/Climate Action Plans.  Professional Engineer (PE) or LEED AP registration highly desirable.  Although not required, we also desire candidates with noise modeling experience (FHWA Noise Prediction Model, INM, and/or Cadna).

Responsibilities:

As Air Quality Director:

  • Lead a dynamic and growing team of scientists and engineers in performing AQIAs, GHG analyses, and Health Risk Assessments (HRAs) for highly visible and/or challenging projects.
  • Lead or manage compliance tasks such as permitting, emissions inventories, audits, etc.
  • Serve as Project Manager (PM), Project Director (PD) or subject matter expert overseeing technical assignments for adherence to quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • Grow ESA’s regional air, noise, and climate change markets for public and private clients; identify trends and pursue leads.
  • Lead and contribute to winning proposal/interview efforts.
  • Coordinate with other internal groups to leverage, expand and to help cross sell ESA services.
  • Represent ESA at presentations, conferences and professional events.
  • Build and maintain strong and responsive client relationships.
  • Mentor and supervise qualified staff across multiple offices and technical disciplines.
  • Uphold and ensure compliance with company policies and best practices regarding health and safety, ethics, financial responsibilities, innovation and quality service.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Deep and broad experience with air quality and greenhouse gas policies and regulations.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and leading complex air quality, noise, or GHG projects.

  • Excellent written, presentation, problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Established relationships and demonstrated success in winning air quality, noise, or GHG projects for wide array of client types (development, industrial, municipal, etc.).

  • Proven experience in successful leadership and growth of a team of professionals, with the ability to develop the skills and talents of others.

  • Experience and ability to drive positive financial results.

  • A focus on continual growth and improvement, and the ability to succeed in a team-oriented culture.

 

Qualified candidates should have a BA/BS in a related discipline and a minimum of 15 years’ experience; or a Masters and a minimum of 12 years’ experience. Other attributes that are desired, but not required, include: recent profit and loss responsibility for a sizable air/GHG practice; expertise in preparing Climate Action Plans, or other sustainability services; expertise in dispersion modeling and/or HRA; and a Professional Engineer registration.
