About the Position:

ESA is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Project Accountant to effectively support our Northern California region in meeting or exceeding its financial goals by partnering with the Business Manager, Regional Leadership Team, and project management teams to ensure seamless project accounting including billings, accounts receivable, budget and contract management, and ability to identify and track financial trends.

Preference given to applicants with experience in Environmental or Architecture and Engineering (A&E) consulting and use of Deltek Vision accounting software. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of project invoicing cycle from initial billing to receipt of payment;

  • Focus on DSO (Days Sales Outstanding) through efficient invoicing and collections;

  • Partner with Project Managers on contract management including initial execution, insurance coverage, subcontractor coordination, and maintenance for duration of the project (ie, budget modifications and rate increases);

  • Assist Project Managers in reviewing project costs and proactively managing budgets;

  • Identify and track multiplier, profitability, and other financial trends;

  • Establish and maintain effective record-keeping systems;

  • Collaborate with regional Project Accounting team to effectively utilize consistent processes region-wide;

  • Coordinate with Corporate Accounting team as needed.

Required Education/Experience:

  • BA/BS in accounting, finance, business or related degree preferred;

  • 7-10 years of progressive project/general accounting experience in A&E consulting or other service industry;

  • Familiarity with complex invoicing requirements of local and state agencies;

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Deltek Vision accounting system applications;

  • Good understanding of accounting concepts; 

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); 

  • Strong people skills with positive attitude and customer service orientation; 

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and to set and meet deadlines;

  • Sound judgment, self-motivated;

  • Detail and solution oriented with good problem-solving skills; 

  • Ability to work well independently as well a part of a team;

  • Excellent organization and analytical skills.


This position would be based in our San Francisco or Sacramento office, and will work with individuals across our Northern California region which includes our San Francisco, Oakland, Petaluma, and Sacramento offices.
