Senior Director of Internships

The Senior Director of Internships is a senior position within the higher education division of WorldStrides, specifically within ISA, which is responsible for the oversight of the current internship programs as well as future strategy for expansion for the division. This position requires a candidate who has the ability to both lead a strategic initiative as well as manage a team and focus on the detail-oriented areas of the programs. The Sr. Director of Internships will serve as the business and product leader for global internships and oversee all aspects of the programs to ensure success and exceed student and advisor expectations.

Program Development and Management

  • Oversee quality of current internship program both domestically and abroad to ensure that all participants and associated institutions are satisfied
  • Monitor and evaluate all programs and provide strategic planning to address challenges and improve program weaknesses
  • Grow enrollment and scope of global internship offerings; create business cases to support growth and drive strategic direction of internship business; consider new paths and adjacent markets and work to expand overall business 
  • A solid increase in NPS scores over the next 2 years will be a key measurement of success
  • Ensure proper protocol is followed for health, safety and risk management issues and handle student issue escalations/incident reports as needed
  • Monitor and manage international immigration processes
  • Collect and compile all necessary cost information and set appropriate program fees
  • Guarantee necessary academic enrollments, invoices are cleared, certificates are issued, and proper documentations is upheld
  • Oversee curricular and co-curricular programming to ensure that teams are upholding company customer service standards and best practices in the fields of international internships and career development

Customer Service and Partnership Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with university stakeholders to identify and develop programming that meets the institutional needs of ISA’s 400+ affiliate university partners; work cross-functionally to recruit for and implement programs
  • Develop proposals and outline program opportunities for cohort programs from university partners
  • Negotiate and draft partnership contracts and agreements
  • Ensure every team member is providing excellent customer service to both internal and external clients through regular training, best-practices meetings, and careful review of participant evaluations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with third-party placement providers as well as school of record

Leadership & Staff Management

  • Directly oversee a team of 6 who are responsible for admissions, student enrollment, academic oversight, and career advising processes
  • Provide leadership to staff abroad involved in the internship program through regular meetings, communications, trainings, and clear expectations
  • Coordinate communications, information systems, and trainings with international staff to monitor internship markets, recruit new host companies/organizations, meet placement timelines, improve processes, and strengthen student support
  • Represent the internship division including internal meetings and external presentations such as advisor workshops
  • Provide leadership and training to the institutional relations team on how to best engage with institutional partners and prospective students for internship programs
  • Represent the organization at study abroad and career fairs, strategic campus visits, and conferences
  • Be the face of the organization with WIVRA groups of NAFSA, the GIC Conference, NACE, and other similar field-specific organizations by submitting session proposals and through active participation

Cross-Company Collaboration for Divisional Success

  • Work to integrate division processes and policies into larger company-wide protocol to increase efficiencies
  • Work closely with other admissions team leaders to ensure synergies in processes and protocols
  • Develop strong relationships with Geographic Oversight leaders, overseas operational leaders, local Resident Directors, and the health and safety team to ensure collaboration in incident management, program development, housing securement, on-site support and more.
  • Develop a strong relationship with the marketing team and work collaboratively to develop marketing plans and ensure execution, write copy for online and print collateral (including annual catalog), advocate for website improvements that will benefit the internship division
  • Work with Lead Management Team to ensure that internship leads are being handled efficiently and effectively
  • Work closely with Academic Affairs department on academic portions of the program
  • Act as divisional point person for IT projects
  • Act as on-call manager for approximately one week per quarter

Position Start Date: Immediate

Reports to: Vice President, Pacific Region Programs and Strategic Initiatives

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MA or MBA preferred
  • 4+ years of management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and carry out strategic initiatives
  • Previous experience in internship placement or job recruitment
  • Previous experience in higher education is a bonus
