We are currently seeking an experienced electrical engineer to join the Power & Propulsion Group at our Research and Development Center. The group supports propulsion-related aspects of the development of advanced aircraft ranging from small unmanned aerial systems to large commercial transports, and conducts research on novel power and propulsion system concepts. The Electrical Engineer will serve as a technical expert in the field of electric machines and their integration into advanced electrified propulsion systems. Typical candidates will have an advanced degree from a top engineering school and multiple years of experience with electric motors, generators, and/or drivetrains.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Define electric machine and system design requirements as part of the aircraft design process

  • Evaluate and provide recommendations of commercially available electric machines for integration into electrified propulsion systems

  • Perform analysis of electrical machines, including development of analysis tools

  • Communicate information about electric system design, requirements, and performance between design team, management, customers, vendors, and collaborators

  • Develop and execute test plans for electric components and systems

  • Present analytical and experimental data, and recommendations based on findings

  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to develop, propose, and execute research programs on novel aerospace propulsion and power systems

Minimum Requirements:

  • MS in electrical engineering or related field from an accredited university, or equivalent related work experience

  • 3+ years of industry or research experience with design or analysis of electric machines

  • Familiarity with electric drivetrain components, including energy storage devices and power electronics

  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated success in a highly collaborative environment

  • Ability to support multiple activities with competing priorities and deadlines

  • Must be willing to relocate to Boston area and work onsite

  • Must be a US Citizen or Legal US Permanent Resident      

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • PhD in electrical engineering or related field from an accredited university

  • 5+ years of industry or research experience with design and analysis of electric machines

  • Strong understanding of both electric machine engineering and underlying fundamental physics

  • Experience generating and interpreting electric system wiring diagrams

  • Experience with printed circuit board design and associated software tools

  • Basic understanding of internal combustion engine, gas turbine engine, and aircraft design and operation

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to support travel
